God is Great, Beer is Good

October 29, 2009 - 8:11 am

You gotta love country music. I do. As I was dropping the kids off to school today, there was a song playing I have heard several times before, but it just struck me today. God is great, beer is good and people are crazy. I thought to myself truer words have never been spoken.

I mean think about it. . . how many insane crazy things that people do or put off do you have to deal with daily? So many times I just want to say, pull your head out of your butt and look at yourself! (generally I say that looking in the mirror)

But no matter how crazy people get, nothing is quite as relaxing as an ice cold beer! Kick back, put your feet up and take a long drink. Laugh heartily at how crazy people are and think to yourself, this is alright.

And to put in all into perspective, take a moment and reflect on your life. How great has God been to you? Amidst the pain, the hurt, the crazy people, He is still there, still working, still loving you. How great is that.

God is great, beer is good and people are crazy!

Enjoy your day.

A New Ending

October 2, 2009 - 8:22 am

I ran across this quote the other day “Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”

It caused me to stop and think. We truly can never start over. I think we like the concept of starting over, but it is just not practical. I mean we are different today that yesterday. We have gained experiences and knowledge that change how we are and how we think about things, so starting over is impossible.

We can however alter the course of our lives, to make a turn in the right direction if we feel we are headed the wrong way or just simply a minor course correction if we feel we have begun to veer off course.

You see if we stay on the same direction, are end is defined, however when we course adjust or alter direction we have changed our ending.

I hope today that you take time to consider your end, where you will end up if you continue down this path. Some of us need adjustments. Good luck in changing your ending!

Always worth repeating

September 29, 2009 - 3:14 pm

From time to time I stumble upon quotes that are worth repeating.

Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits: they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.

Our attitude shapes our actions and our very nature. The Bible often cautions that what our hearts and minds focus on influences our behavior, and the sort of character that we exhibit to others.

Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”
– John 3:20-21

Welcome

August 13, 2009 - 5:37 pm

Welcome to Urban Gathering.

Urban Gathering is my (Buck Fleming) blog site.  The name Urban Gathering is taken from two principles I would like applicable to my life and those that chance or purposefully stop in.

Urban: Related To Cities – it is my belief that we are all a part of a global community (city).  And that our lives criss cross like those pedistrians on the city streets of New York or LA, except we do it on the web.  We can choose to just pass people by or engage them, which brings us to the second term.

Gathering: Is an area where fabric is folded or bunched together with common cord; a generic term for one of several knitting techniques to draw stitches closer together;  a group of people coming together for a task.  I believe intensely that all our lives share a common cord, God.  At times He pulls us close and bunches us together for the accomplisment of certain tasks, such as encourageing each other, sharing our lives and experience to help each other along, to lift up the fallen and nurse the broken.

So with that I say welcome and hope that you find, a welcoming place here where you can stop by from time to time and be blessed, challenged, inspired, made to think or just chill.
