Time
Time, the minutes marked on the clock, The moments echoed in a steady tick tock.
For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanishes away (James 4:14).
In church this Sunday, the pastor was teaching an excellent message on God, and as he shared some of God’s glorious perfections, he spoke on God’s eternal existence. What an incredible concept, one in which I think that we can not fully grasp. Our lives are marked by passing seconds, passing minutes, passing hours, passing days, passing years until the day we die and the sum is our live is sumed up in years. Eternity, without end. What a concept.
The pastor made a statement that struck me deeply, “Time was created by God for us, live it well!” I must admit that thought permiated my thoughts most of the afternoon. I mentally walked through my life, my current life circumstances and what my future might look like. I was reminded that 2 Peter 3:9: “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is long suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” You might say what does that have to do with time? Well I think that is the hingepoint of it. Our time is limited. Our opportunity to make choices is limited. The chance to undo the wrongs we have done, to make ammends for the offenses we created in our lives, to repent of sin, to turn to God. It is all narrowed to a limited window. What will you do with that window today?
It is better to spend more time at funerals than at festivals. For you are going to die and you should think about it while there is still time (Ecclesiastes 7:2).
