Investigation
Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; Cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about; See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong— then guide me on the road to eternal life. – Psalm 139:23-24 (The Message)
Can you truly ask God to search you and investigate – get down to what you are really all about?
Recently I was watching my son frantically text on his cell phone and then ding, then text again then ding – my couriosity was aroused, so I asked him to let me see his phone. He got alarmed and said no, that his phone texting was private. Immediately my parental red siren went off ! I told him, that he was mine and I paid that bill so the phone was mine too so give it over! After a bit of a tussel, I had the phone and saw that there was nothing wrong with his messages, he just wanted his privacy.
In the midst of that, I felt a gentle conviction roll over me… what if my son asked to see my phone? Would I be so willing to show it? What if you or one of my other friends asked to see it? The words of David began to echo is my heart – “Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me”. Can we honestly say that? Do we really want anyone, especially God to investigate us?
For me it is time for a bit of self-evaluation. I want to say with joy “O LORD, you have searched me and you know me.” – Psalm 139:1
